Der World Press Photo Award 2010 stellt den Oscar der Pressefotografie dar. Diesmal wurde das Foto der südafrikanische Fotografin Jodi Bieber zu dem besten Bild des Jahres 2010 ausgezeichnet. Das emotionsgeladene Bild zeigt die 18-jährige Bibi Aisha. Ihren Ehemann und Schwager schnitten ihr die Ohren und Nase ab, danach floh sie in ihr Elternhaus. Heute lebt sie in den USA und unterzog sich dort einer kosmetischen Operation. Fünf Gruppen von insgesamt 19 Juroren unter dem Vorsitz des amerikanischen Fotografen David Burnett bestimmten die Gewinner. Die eingereichten Presse Bilder werden dabei nach ihrem Nachrichtenwert und der kreativen Leistung des Fotografen bewertet. Über 108.059 Fotografien aus 125 Ländern wurden eingereicht. Ein neuer Rekord zum 54. World Press Photo Award. Insgesamt zeichnete die Jury in neun Kategorien 56 Fotografen aus 23 Ländern aus. Das Premier Award Pressefoto von Jodi Bieber des World Press Photo Award 2010 ist mit 10.000 Euro dotiert. Alle Siegerfotos werden vom 22. April bis 7. Mai in der Oude Kerk im Zentrum von Amsterdam ausgestellt, danach treten diese eine Wanderausstellung in über 100 Standorten auf der ganzen Welt an.
